I used to read YouTube comments and get mad.  I come from a time when no one read what you wrote unless you worked for a magazine or newspaper.  Now any moron with a keyboard can comment on a video and have their words seen by hundreds or thousands of people.  That’s great!  But people write things without thinking, and often without logic or responsibility or good judgment or tact or class.

But I had a thought today.  What if we had fact checking for YouTube comments?  When a politician tells some blatant lie based on made up facts, there are websites that fact check what he says.  Politifact.com being one of them.  If you haven’t been there, you should visit that site.  You will learn the obvious – all politicians lie.  The site will tell you who lies the most.

Here’s a real thread from a YouTube video, with real account names.  Hey, you put your words out there on the Internet under your account name, you don’t get to control who reads them and where they get quoted.  I’m going to fact check the conversation, with comments inline.

you guys at fender that call youselves master builders need to get a life , any 12 year old with a Phillips screw driver can make a strat or telecaster. that’s a fact.

FALSE.  A Fender Strat is not made by one person, regardless of age.  Complicated CNC machines, woodworkers, and other craftsmen are involved in all stages of the process.

give them the parts and see. Mexican and jap strats are just as good too as American strats some are better.

MOSTLY FALSE.  American Strats use higher quality parts, in general.  However, a top of the line Mexican or Japanese Strat can be a better guitar than an entry level American Strat.  But in general, the Mexican and Japanese Strats use some lesser quality parts (ceramic pickups, for example.)

people don’t waste your money on custom shop ones. the real craftsman who make guitars work for Gibson.

FALSE.  Fender employees many craftsmen who are very highly regarded, as does Gibson.

they are made with real nice woods and electronics as well.

TRUE.  Gibson guitars are made of high quality wood and electronic parts.

leo fender knew this as well, that’s why he opened music man guitars and amps

MOSTLY FALSE.  Leo Fender wanted to make guitars after selling the Fender company, but he had a 10 year non-compete clause in the sales contract.  Leo did want to make a better guitar than what CBS-owned Fender was making, but he also wanted to get back into making guitars.  Gibson had nothing to do with Leo’s decision, nor did Leo think that there were no craftsmen at Fender.

+Larry Burwell It is best not to give advice to someone who didn’t ask for it. It comes across as arrogant. Its kind of like how you feel towards me right now ?
Your opinion is as irrelevant as mine.

MOSTLY TRUE.  Giving advice that you pretend to be expert is seen by most people as arrogant, and the opinions of two random commenters on the Internet are mostly irrelevant to someone’s decision to purchase an expensive guitar.

wow? you are poor and stupid that is why you know little about guitar

MOSTLY FALSE.  While the original poster does come across as stupid, it has not been established that the poster is poor, or that being poor and stupid is the reason why they know little about guitars.  It has not been established that they know little about guitars as a whole topic – merely that they do not know much about the things they’ve spoken of.

do you have a brain tumor because you are stupid

LIKELY FALSE.  No medical evidence of brain tumor is presented.  There is some evidence of stupidity, but not enough to conclusively prove it.

leo’s designs are way more advanced than Gibson’s was. their headstock alone is severely flawed .

MOSTLY TRUE.  It depends on perspective.  The popular Gibson Les Paul is expensive to build and as mentioned the headstock design is not as effective as the headstock design used by most Fender guitars.  There are two reasons for this – the Gibson Les Paul uses a post-nut string angle that often makes it difficult to keep the G string in tune, an issue you don’t normally see on Strats or Teles.  The design is also very susceptible to breakage if the guitar falls on its back, unlike a typical Fender.

Nothing flawed about a Les Paul headstock makes more sense than a strats

FALSE.  Reasons stated above.

Nicholas Fanzo4 months ago
Not doesnt hold tune as well and look at all of the headstock breaks. A well designed headstock doesnt snap off when its lightly hit against something.

MOSTLY TRUE.  The phrase “lightly hit” could be taken many different ways.  In reality it takes a good amount of force to break a Les Paul headstock, such as a backwards fall onto a hard surface.  But the design is susceptible to breakage in this manner.

+Nicholas Fanzo Really? My Gibson stays in tune just fine

UNSURE.  We don’t have any data on the poster’s guitar, including the model.  This is very difficult to guess.

Nicholas Fanzo2 months ago
Take a strat and drop it. Now drop your gibson and see what happens.

SOMEWHAT TRUE.  A Gibson Les Paul is far more likely to suffer a headstock break, which is what is being implied.

Dropped it and my Epiphone a few times. No damage to the headstock

UNSURE.  A Les Paul type guitar can be dropped in many fashions, and not all of them will break the headstock.  However, the headstock design flaw is a well-known issue, and if the poster has dropped his two guitars in the fashion likely to break the headstock, and there has been no damage, it’s likely due to luck.
