I’m working on the StewMac guitar build.  I got some black grain filler from StewMac because I wanted it to get down into the wood so that when I sanded it off, it’d show the grain more when I apply red stain.

It worked, but… the grain filler got down into the pickup cavities, and it’s turning out to be crazy difficult to remove it.  I should have masked them off.  Live and learn.  The grain filler that I can’t remove will now be there forever.  I mean, it IS a $200 kit after all.  I’m not experimenting on a Core model PRS.

A couple of other things about the StewMac grain filler – it’s very difficult to mix with water, it smells kinda bad, and the directions to take it off with 320 grit sandpaper are laughable.  You need 220 and a sander.  All of this will be in an upcoming video.

Now I understand why Sully of Sully Guitars said “Grain Fillers SUCK.”  Yes, I agree.  They do suck.
