There’s a post title that very few people will care about.  Who would care about data for the budgetguitarist.com YouTube channel?  Someone who wants to start their own guitar channel, I guess.

In the screenshot below, you’ll see the viewer age of the videos I make over on my YouTube channel.  It was honestly a surprise to me to find the biggest group being 25-34 years.  I always imagined the people watching my channel were all older.  I mean, I was right, but I thought most of my viewers were 40 or older.  Nope.  I’m not surprised that such a tiny percentage are the 18-24 year olds.  If you’re 18 and you’re playing guitar, you might be into classic rock, but you’re more likely to be into either John Mayer or Death Metal.

I generate content based on whatever I feel like doing, not demographics.  It’s one of many factors that will keep my channel from exploding (or even growing quickly.). It’s OK.  I do the same thing with my own music, and with this website.

But if I compare this data to the video titles that do best, a picture emerges.  A good portion of my audience is between 25 and 44, and they own either an Epiphone Les Paul or an HX Stomp, and many of them want to learn more about working on guitars.  More players who watch my channel are into Les Pauls than Strats or Teles.

It’s interesting.  I make whatever videos I want to make… but the channel’s following definitely has needs and areas of interests.  The natural teacher in me wants to help.  I’m currently doing a series on setting up a Fender MIM Strat.

Oh well.  I won’t show you the viewer gender tab because it’s very, very, very male-dominated.  I hope I’m not doing things to discourage female viewers.  I don’t tell sexist jokes or anything, but there are probably many ways in which I could be more accommodating.  It’s my job to figure that out.

Anyway, I thought someone out there might find this interesting.
