I just read a really good post on the Wampler blog about the standby switch on your tube amp.  So rather than write up a big page here, I’m going to summarize and then put the URL link in.  If you’re interested in this topic, you should read the whole post.

It seems like the standby switch probably isn’t really all that effective.  It seems the best idea is to just turn your amp on, wait a few minutes before playing, and then when you’re done, turn your amp off.  Leaving it in standby mode for hours might be a bad idea.  From personal experience, I think that’s probably true.  I burned through the output tubes on my Peavey ValveKing Micro head in about a year, and I had that thing on, in standby mode, all the time.
