I think Tony is funny, but as I’ve previously blogged, between him and the intro song, I’m losing half of my viewers.  I previously wrote that I needed to “get over it.”  But… well, it’s been weighing on me.  Is this a case of saying “you can’t please everyone,” or is this a case of the intro being boring and me being stubborn about it?

Tony does a lot better when he’s in the video instead of being the only face in the intro, and in every single case, my intro music is making people leave.  But the intro was there to pimp this site.  Was there another way to pimp the site?  Yes.  Toss the logo up on the screen when I say “Richard, from budget guitarist dot com.”  Early results are promising – it looks like I can retain a lot more people this way.

But in the Acoustic IR file video I just did, there was no Tony.  And numbers be damned, I will not give up on Tony.  It’s important to me that my sense of humor be present.  The trick is figuring out how to include him in the content in a way that is entertaining.  Tony is the video editor for the show, but people don’t like it when he intrudes on the content.  They do like it, though, when he gets mad about something.  That’s something for me to think about.

The channel is on pace with where I wanted it to be.  My goal was to get to 1,000 subscribers in two years, which means by May 2021 I need to be at 500, and I should be pretty close to that by then.  I’ve never done any paid ads to boost my channel.  I’ve thought about it, but opinions are mixed on whether it’s a good idea.  Some people say it leads to more negative comments and more thumbs down.  A thousand subs in two years is NOT ambitious, but a lot of guitar channels can’t get there.  I’d LOVE for the YouTube channel to get the kind of traffic this website gets, but I’m years away from that.

Oh well.  If you follow the channel, you’ll see me experimenting around with different ways to include Tony as well as plug this website.  After a while, I’ll have a better idea on how to do it.  For now, it seems like the Tony intros and theme songs are a thing of the past.  Tony isn’t happy, but then again, he rarely is.
