Well, we hit another small milestone – the PRS SE Custom 24 vs PRS Satin S2 video has gone over 1,000 views as of July 30, 2020.  Hooray!  Starting a YouTube channel is like building a house with hand tools – you can do the work, but what you really need to do is keep trying to improve your videos and keep making them weekly.  It’s definitely work but it’s definitely fun!

A thousand views would be a huge, huge failure for a large YouTube channel, but of course I’m a hobbyist.  You might think that with all of my love for the guitar, I should be doing guitar stuff full time, but I do professional web development for a living and believe it or not, I really enjoy that, too.  I have a LOT of hobbies – guitar repair, playing, writing, recording, making videos, writing, coding web pages, writing software…  any one of them could be what I do for a living.  Coding web pages is fun and I really can work from home.  Well, for now.  Once the pandemic has passed, I’ll likely be back to my office.

I miss going to guitar stores and putting my hands on all the new gear, but it’s not worth my life.  Um, would Covid-19 actually KILL me if I got it?  Probably not, but I am 55 and I’m a little overweight.  Also, my daughter has massive allergy issues where she’s coughing a lot.  I’m not putting her in any danger.

I wonder how many YouTube channels were started because of the pandemic?  Mine was.  I’ve wanted to do it for the past two years but never felt like I had the time to get started.  Now the trick is to figure out how to make better videos, and you can only do that by making videos.

Back to the PRS video.  I have some videos with like 18 views or something, but obviously there’s a lot more interest in the shootout stuff.  About 300 people watched it because YouTube suggested it – that is a very good sign.

The funny thing is that I’m happy it has over a thousand views, but YouTube can’t give me any demographic info on it because there haven’t been enough views.  A thousand views is NOTHING on YouTube.  But it means something to me, because it means the channel has some potential.

I appreciate each and every view of each and every web page and video I make.  I’m not entirely sure why I do it, but it has something to do with self expression.  For years, my primary way of expressing myself was in writing songs, which was rare, and in writing emails to someone, which had an audience of one.  If one person reads this post, I’ll be happy.  This category is pretty much a diary.  I’m hopeful that someone who wants to start their own YouTube channel might find some of this stuff helpful.  And other people may or may not find it interesting.
