I tried something different in the video I put up today – I did a guitar lesson.  Specifically, how to make your basic pentatonic blues scale solos more interesting.  I aimed it at players who had gotten the basics of pentatonic soloing down and wanted to move to the next level.  I have no idea if the video will make sense to anyone other than me, but I was willing to try it because, well, it’s not like this is my career or anything.

But it’s really obvious to me that I’m still struggling to figure out exactly what I ought to be doing with my videos.  I have tons of ideas – I have a list of over 100 of them.  I made it before I started the channel.  The pandemic was the catalyst.

As I slowly inch my way up to the magical subscriber number of 100 (I’m at 81 as I type this,) I have been tempted to pay one of the advertising services that will “get you views.”  But my research shows me that you won’t get what I’d call “quality” views.  People are seeing my videos now on purpose – there’s no ad tricking them.  They’re watching because the video was linked to from here (where several thousand people per week swing by the read something) or due to a YouTube search.  I have two goals – first I want to get to 100.  Almost there.  Second, within two years, I want to get to 1,000.  In order to get there, I’m going to need to keep posting videos that are at least 10 minutes long, every Friday at 5 pm.  That won’t be a problem.  But I’m curious about what will work best.  So far, it’s no contest – The PRS S2 vs SE video is my most popular.  But I am noticing that my HX Stomp Strat Sounds video is starting to do well too, and I have a lot to share regarding the HX Stomp, so that looks like a good direction to head.

If you’re reading this, thank you.  The site and the YouTube channel are therapy for me – I’ve loved the electric guitar since about age 11.  And the very first rock and roll record that I got, at age 11, in 1976, was KISS Destroyer.  That’s a hell of a good start.  I never tire of electric guitars and the gear surrounding them.  No one I know wants to talk about them as much as I do, though a few of this site’s readers have emailed me and they might be right up there with me!

It’s 1 in the morning and I can’t sleep, so yeah, I’m blogging.  And I have a good idea for my next video.  Maybe I’ll shoot a video on how to get a really good distortion using a humbucking guitar and an HX Stomp.

I also have a really good one featuring some stuff headed for the often ignored Gallery of Awesomeness on this very site.  Ads from comic books from the 1960’s.  That’s going to be fun.
