I should have waited until 50 episodes before doing this, but I didn’t.

I’ve done 38 videos and I’m interested in seeing what is popular vs. what isn’t.  As of now, my most popular video is comparing a PRS SE with a PRS S2.  Makes sense – people like comparison videos.  Then again, my Gibson Les Paul vs Epiphone Les Paul ranked #14, so not even in the top 10.

But to look at a bigger picture, here are the Top 10 videos by topic:

  • PRS comparison
  • HX Stomp
  • Epiphone setup
  • Tips for improving Epiphone
  • HX Stomp
  • HX Stomp
  • Alex Lifeson
  • Guitar Collection
  • Epiphone Setup
  • HX Stomp

The HX Stomp/Epiphone videos are 7 out of those 10.  But to be fair, the name “PRS” only appears in one of my 38 videos.  And it’s my top video by far.

Granted, you have to allow some time to go by – new videos don’t have the views because they’re new.  So tossing out the videos that are less than 4 weeks old, by five least-viewed videos are:

  • How to Evaluate an Acoustic Guitar’s Tone
  • Tony’s Holiday Special (Tony is very hurt, by the way)
  • 10 Tips for Buying a Guitar
  • Amps Overview video
  • Nashville Tuning

What do these five underachievers have in common?  Three of them are aimed at novice players.  One has nothing to do with guitar.  And one is esoteric.

Conclusions so far?  Well… I need to make more videos about my PRS guitars, and people really prefer videos about the Epiphone Les Paul and the HX Stomp, with the Stomp being more popular.  That’s good news, because there are TONS of videos that can be made about the Stomp.

This doesn’t mean my channel turns into the HX Stomp channel.  This coming Friday I’m releasing a video about using heavy gauge strings to simulate a baritone guitar.  I fully expect it to bomb, but I wanted to make the video.  In an upcoming video I’m going to show my attempts to rescue a Yamaha classical guitar.  But I’m also working on doing an episode on getting a good acoustic guitar simulation out of an HX Stomp.

Meanwhile, I’m very close to finishing my new album “Songs About Dogs.”  Every song on the album is a different genre of music, and I wrote it mostly to amuse myself, but I am hoping that some of the songs get licensed.  It’s non-serious music that was written to appeal to all ages, unlike my usual retro-rock stuff.

Lots going on.  I wouldn’t have it any other way.
